The idea is simple: kids earn stars all week for jobs and good choices, then trade them for TV time on the weekend. Here’s how to set up the chart.
1. Fill it in
Open the PDF in the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. Browser PDF viewers don’t always save what you type, so Acrobat Reader works best.
- Name and week: type your kid’s name and the date.
- Jobs: the 8 job rows are editable. Swap in whatever fits your family, like feed the dog or put shoes away.
- Minutes per star: you pick. Five minutes is a good place to start.
Save a copy with your jobs filled in, so you can print a fresh chart every week without retyping.
2. Print it
It prints on US Letter paper, turned sideways. On A4 paper, choose “Fit to page.” Want one chart for each kid? Save a copy for each name.
3. Earn stars all week
Monday to Friday, kids get a star for each job they finish. There’s also a bonus row for something extra kind or helpful. Let them color in or stick on their own stars.
4. Cash in on the weekend
On Saturday, count the stars and fill in the Weekend TV Bank: stars earned, times minutes per star, equals TV time. Kids can plan which shows they’ll watch on Saturday and Sunday.
Tips
- Set the rules up front. No stars for fussing about stars. Grown-ups have the final say. Unused minutes don’t roll over.
- Keep jobs doable. Pick things they can do on their own.
- Start fresh every week. One bad day doesn’t ruin the whole week.
- Keep it where they’ll see it. The fridge is perfect.
