Two-Minute Teeth: Tooth Brushing Song Lyrics and Tips

On this page

Two minutes can feel like forever to a little kid with a toothbrush. This song is about two minutes long, so when it ends, you’re done. Press play at brush time and brush along with Penny.

    Sing along

Grab your brush! Here we go!

Squeeze a little dot, just a pea
Top teeth first, now follow me
    Little circles, round and round
    Brushy brushy, what a sound

    Two minutes, two minutes
    Scrub a dub your teeth
Tops and bottoms, fronts and backs
    Sparkly clean beneath
    Two minutes, two minutes
    Penny’s brushing too
Sparkly teeth for me and Penny
    Sparkly teeth for you

Now the bottoms, left and right
    Chase those sugar bugs tonight
    Don’t forget your tongue, hello
Brush it gently, nice and slow

    (Chorus)

    Spit! (splash)
    Rinse! (swish)
    Smile big! (ding)
All done, all done, now give a grin
    Tomorrow night we’ll brush again

    Tips for brush time

    • Brush together. Brush your own teeth at the same time, at least for the first week.
    • Follow the song. Tops first, then bottoms, then the tongue. The song walks you through it.
    • Just a pea. Kids only need a tiny bit of toothpaste. Ask your dentist what’s right for your child’s age.
    • Check it off. A chart with a box for morning and night gives kids something to finish.
    • Let them teach it. Once they know the song, have them teach a younger sibling or a stuffed animal.

    Talk about it

    • What are the sugar bugs in the song?
    • Which teeth do you brush first?
    • Who else could you teach this song to?

    More from Penny

In Penny’s Sparkly Teeth, Penny hides under a blanket at brush time until Mama teaches her a brushing song. It comes with a week-long brushing chart. See it in the shop.

The Bedtime Routine Set also has a Two-Minute Teeth chart, plus picture cards for the whole bedtime routine.

    Questions parents ask

How long should kids brush their teeth?

Two minutes, twice a day, is the common advice. A two-minute song makes it easier for kids to know when they’re done.

How much toothpaste should a child use?

Very little. Ask your child’s dentist what amount is right for your child’s age.

How can I make tooth brushing fun?

Brush together, use a song or timer, let them check off a chart and let them teach a stuffed animal how to brush.
